Time for Car-Pool
When you think of carpooling, there's a high chance that you immediately think of morning school runs and famous faces doing karaoke. But have you ever seen a car-pool like this before? While this is one of the most unconventional DIY swimming pools on this list, we have to admire the creativity behind it. After all, this couldn't have been easy to bring to life, and would have required some hefty power tools.
But with all of the seats and interior bits that make a car removed, this actually makes a pretty cool swimming pool. Plus, it's fully transportable... maybe!
Pool in a Bag
If you have a roll of trash bags in your home, you've probably only ever considered using them to carry your trash. But what if you had the chance to turn a trash bag into your own private pool? It might not be something you've thought of before, but these guys decided to try it out - and it seems to have worked! It's safe to say that they don't look very comfortable, though.
While we're sure this cooled them down during the hot summers, it's fair to say that this isn't a traditional swimming pool. After all, there's definitely no swimming going on in this backyard.
Real-Life Dumpster Diving
When you think of dumpster diving, you probably think of people grabbing stale food or vintage furniture from trash cans. But this DIY swimming pool takes dumpster diving to a whole new level. After all, the parents of these kids decided to give their children the chance to quite literally dive into a dumpster swimming pool - and, in fact, turning a dumpster into a swimming pool is a great way to re-use it.
We do really hope that these kids didn't dive head-first into this dumpster swimming pool, though. Even if they were diving professionals, those metal sides definitely would have left them with a bump on their heads.
Jumping in the Pool Wagon
Who says you need to build a swimming pool in the ground? Not these guys! They obviously wanted to be the life of the party that summer, which is why they decided to build a traveling swimming pool that could be taken from house to house to pick up more party-goers as they went. And we have to say that we admire their creativity. After all, we'd love to jump in this pool wagon.
Sure, there's not enough space for the whole neighborhood in this particular wagon, but who is to say that they don't have a whole fleet of pool wagons lined up behind it?
Too Hot to Handle
Hands up if you love swimming pools? Hands up if you love fire pits? We're going to assume that most of you are waving your hands in the air like you just don't care, as many people dream of having a backyard that has both of them in. But it seems as though these guys decided to go the extra mile and merge these two ideas into one and create a too-hot-to-handle swimming pool fire pit.
We guess they don't have to worry about the firepit getting too out of hand, but something about this still seems pretty strange. It's perfect for making swimming pool s'mores, though.
Got Beer?
Is there anything better than drinking a cold one in the swimming pool? No, we thought not. These guys obviously agree, which is why they actually decided to build a swimming pool out of beer crates. And while we appreciate the fact that they also added a swimming pool liner and waited for it to fill up with water, we can't help but think that these guys could have thought this through a bit better.
Every time these guys want to open a new crate of beer, they're going to disassemble their swimming pool at the same time. Surely that's the last thing they would want to do?
Bubble, Bubble, Boil and Trouble
No, these people aren't being boiled alive to make human soup. Instead, they're trying out one of the latest DIY swimming pool crazes - but you'll have to be careful if you try to replicate this at home. The idea behind this swimming pool is that you build a metal hanging bowl and heat it up using the fire below. It's essentially a large swimming pool hot tub cauldron, and it looks pretty cool.
The difficulty lies in maintaining the temperature of this homemade swimming pool. And if it gets too hot too quickly, it's very difficult to get in and out of these things!
All Tired Out
Being a kid means that you can let your imagination go wild and make your own fun, and it seems as though that's exactly what these guys decided to do. When they grew bored of the summer months, they decided to make themselves a swimming pool out of an old tire - and we have to say that it's pretty effective. They also chose a tractor tire, so it's plenty big enough!
Judging by the looks on their faces, they're pretty happy with their creation. And while it's no jacuzzi, it's still a pretty fun way to spend the day when you're not at school.
The Green Lagoon
Having a swimming pool in your backyard is a lot of work. You need to make sure that it's clean, maintain and replace all of the filters, and keep it full. And while it seems as though this guy didn't want to keep up with the maintenance, he obviously still wanted to get the most out of his swimming pool. So, he decided to head into the green lagoon and go boating!
We don't blame him, really. If that was us, we wouldn't want to go into that green water either. That looks like a recipe for disaster - and stomach pains.
"Mom, Can We Get a Pool? "
Hands up if you asked your mom for a swimming pool when you were younger? We're going to go ahead and assume that most of you are waving your hands in the air like you just don't care right now, as most kids wanted a swimming pool in their backyard. But it seems as though these kids just didn't want to take no for an answer, which is why they fought back by building their own indoor swimming pool.
They used a large plastic sheet for this job, and while we certainly appreciate the thought process behind it, we think they forgot to think about one small detail. How did they empty it?
One Man's Trash
You know what they say: one man's trash is another man's treasure - and that definitely seems to be the case for this guy. As a proud Australian, he loves the fact that his country gets incredibly hot during the summer months. But without his own swimming pool, he sometimes felt as though things could sometimes get too hot. So, he decided to make his own with a trash can! And we really hope he cleaned it first.
While it's not a conventional swimming pool, it's certainly unique. It does the job, and a major perk is that he doesn't have to worry about anyone else coming in and peeing in the pool.
A Boat in Reverse
Many people buy boats to go out on the water, but it seems as though these people decided to build a boat in reverse and fill the boat with water instead! Normally, this would result in a disaster of epic proportions - but this was totally intentional, as they wanted to create a driveway swimming pool. And with some extra plastic sheets, they brought this reverse boat swimming pool to life.
Let's just hope that there was a lifeguard available at this DIY pool because this definitely doesn't look like the safest swimming pool we've ever seen. What's with the random planks of wood?
Summer on the Farm
You probably don't need us to tell you that a proper in-ground swimming pool is extremely expensive. In fact, even buying an above-ground swimming pool will cost you a fortune! And the family living on this farm just didn't have that kind of cash lying around. They knew they wanted a swimming pool, though, which is why they decided to put their heads together and build something with what they had available.
We have to admit that this is pretty clever. They stacked up some spare hay bales, covered them with a plastic sheet, and filled it up! The hay bales even make a pretty comfortable ledge.
That's In-Tents
If you're in desperate need of a vacation but don't have the cash to splash on a fancy hotel with a jacuzzi, you might want to take a leaf out of this guy's book. Of course, it's important to realize that this DIY swimming pool isn't the best invention in the world. Sure, the tent acts as a water membrane and traps the water to make a makeshift pool, but it doesn't look very comfortable.
But what else do you need? This guy has a drink in his hand, he's cooling down in the swimming pool, and he's relaxing after a long day. That's basically like being on vacation.
A Literal Mud Pool
At first glance, it looked as though these guys had nailed their DIY swimming pool. They decided to go all out and build a proper in-ground swimming pool, and they put all of that time and effort into digging the hole and removing the soil from the ground. But if you take a closer look, you'll realize that it's not as impressive as it seems. Why is the water so brown?
Although these guys put a waterproof membrane down and seem to have a pump in the background, this brown pool still looks like it's full of bacteria. Let's hope they've all had their shots.
Feeling Pretty Cool(er)
Have you ever been so hot you would literally do anything to cool yourself down? Maybe you'd stick your head in the freezer or jump into a questionable lake that didn't look very clean. Well, it seemed as though this young girl needed to cool herself down during her fun summer antics, and she decided to make her own personal swimming pool using the cooler that held her family's beers and sodas.
We can't imagine that her family were very happy to have warm drinks on an equally very warm day, but at least this little kid got to cool down in her DIY swimming pool.
Pool-Ception
Most people would be happy with just one pool, but it seems as though one swimming pool just isn't enough for the owners of this house. Instead, they've decided to add another one into the mix, creating a pool-ception that just doesn't really make sense in our minds. So, what happened here? Was there a hole in the bigger pool? Were they too emotionally attached to it to throw it in the trash?
Whatever happened, that smaller pool doesn't look very inviting. Just look at it! It's surrounded by sludge and an old ladder, and you get much better views when you're on vacation.
It's Pool Time, Sergeant
If you know someone who's served in the military, you'll know that they work extremely hard. They often live and work away from their families, they work for weeks on end, and they rarely have downtime. So, we don't really blame these soldiers for making their own DIY swimming pool on one of their rare days off! What we do care about is just how dirty that truck bed looks.
Judging by the brown rust in the truck and the color of that water, these guys are going to need some shots after this swimming session. And we're not talking about the alcoholic type.
Driving in the Deep End
You've heard of diving into the deep end, but have you ever heard of driving into the deep end? If you're not sure what we're talking about, just take a look at this swimming pool fail. Although the swimming pool itself looks incredibly well-made and maintained, the inclusion of a full-size car is pretty strange. So, we can only assume that this driver got a little too hot while driving and needed to cool down.
We really hope they managed to get out of the car before it hit the water and sunk to the bottom, but we also have to wonder how this car managed to get itself out of the deep end.
Lock, Stock Pool, and Trigger
Farmers work long and tiring days, so who can blame them for wanting to soak in a swimming pool at the end of the day? But when this farmer didn't have the money to buy a proper swimming pool, they decided to turn one of their old stock tanks into a pool instead. And we have to admit that this is pretty smart. After all, it would have just been sat there collecting dust otherwise!
By turning the stock tank into a pool, they created a giant swimming pool that was also pretty sturdy. They even added a slide to make it fun for the whole family.
Hanging With the Boys
When you're strapped for cash but still want to hang out with the boys, what do you do? You could head to the park and enjoy the sun, but that's difficult to do when the temperatures are soaring, and it's way too hot. That's why these guys decided to make their own fun with the help of a pickup truck and a waterproof sheet. Then, they turned their pickup truck into a swimming pool.
Judging by the looks on their faces and the beers in their hands, these guys are pretty pleased with their invention. And we would be, too. But how did they empty it?
Heating Things up
If you have a pool at home, you'll know that there's nothing worse than diving into a cold swimming pool - unless it's a scorching day and you're looking to cool down, of course. But did you know that you can actually heat up your pool using hula hoops and trash bags? That's exactly what these people did, and all you have to do is stretch the trash bags over the hula hoops and lay them on top of the water.
As the sun heats up the bags, that heat will then transfer to your water. And while it won't turn a swimming pool into a jacuzzi, it'll definitely be better than it was before.
A Makeshift Jacuzzi
Is there anything better than bobbing around in a hot, bubbling jacuzzi? No, we thought not. But installing a jacuzzi in your home is much more expensive than installing a normal swimming pool, so you have to be pretty rich to add one of these things to your property. But it seems as though these guys decided to bypass this potential money issue and make their own DIY jacuzzi instead.
And while we appreciate their thought process, we do have to wonder how effective this is. Can a random bucket of burning stuff actually warm a whole plastic pool? We're doubtful.
Mind in the Gutter
Have you ever had one of those days where you'll just do anything to go for a swim? We can only assume that this guy was having one of those days, as he decided to take advantage of the heavy rains, rip open a gutter grate, and force himself into the gutters. Of course, he was surrounded by water as a result - but does that really constitute a swimming pool?
The jury is still out on that one, but one thing we do know for sure is the fact that this guy seems pretty proud of himself. Just look at that smile!
Grillin' and Chillin'
If you love swimming pools as much as you love grilling, you might want to take a leaf out of these people's books. They decided to turn the bed of their truck into the ultimate chill pad, complete with a swimming pool and barbecue. And we do have to admire the creativity of this invention. It looks pretty fun, and it also has the added bonus of being fully transportable wherever you want to go.
But can we just take a moment to dissect the color of that water? Either some oil from the barbecue has spilled over into the water or they're hanging out in some seriously dirty water.
What the Hay?
What's better than a summer party? A summer pool party, of course! But who has the money to spend thousands on a proper pool just for one event? This person definitely didn't, which is why they decided to build their own pool for a fraction of the price instead. In fact, they used hay bales from the local farm and used what looks like an old tent or marquee as the water membrane.
The end result looks pretty impressive, but we can't get a proper look at the water. From this angle, it definitely doesn't look like very sanitary or clean. But what do we know?
Stuck in the Mud
One of the worst things about having a swimming pool is all of the upkeep that comes with it. You constantly need to clean and maintain a swimming pool to keep it up to scratch, and that takes a huge amount of time and money. And what happens if you don't have either of those two things? Well, it's highly likely that your swimming pool will look a little something like this.
This looks more like a soggy mud pit than a swimming pool, and there's no way we'd try and dive into this thing. We highly doubt we'd come out again.
Seen Better Days
Most people without pools assume that the people who have pools are rich and extremely privileged. But this picture just goes to show that's not always the case. Although this person had a pool in their backyard, there's no doubt about the fact that it was left for way too long. Not only did it start folding in on itself, but the water also turned a very strange shade of brown.
If you look further, you'll actually see that these people tried to dig a hole for their above-ground pool. And if their aim was to turn it into a below-ground pool, they definitely didn't succeed.
Croc-O-Clock
Having a pool is all fun and games until you look out of your window and see a fully-grown crocodile taking a dip! And we bet the people who owned this pool were pretty scared when they saw this big boy in their backyard. In fact, we can only assume that they instantly packed up their belongings and moved house so they'd never have to encounter the beast ever again.
Yes, it seems as though this pool belongs to the crocodile now, so we guess no humans are allowed in there ever again. At least the crocodile had fun while he was invading someone else's property, though!
So Close, but yet so Far
On paper, the people who bought this swimming pool did everything right. They bought a below-ground pool, they dug a hole in their garden, and they tried to plop it in place so their family could make use of it. But in reality, things just didn't go as planned. For starters, the hole they dug just wasn't right for the pool - and it's clear to see that this swimming pool would never fit amongst this bizarre collection of bricks.
To make matters even worse, they also filled the pool before they were trying to slot it into place. We're not swimming pool experts, but we do know that water is heavy. So, why did they do it?
Safety First
First of all, we'd just like to give a round of applause to these people. Although they made a relatively small swimming pool out of an abandoned boat, they still appreciated the fact that safety always comes first. So, they made sure to have a lifeguard on duty whenever anyone went into the deep end! And that's the kind of thoughtfulness we love to see in today's day and age.
Of course, we're pretty confident that the kids in this boat swimming pool wouldn't get in any trouble as the water isn't very deep at all. But you can never be too careful.
Feeling Blue
If you have a spare dumpster lying around the house, this is your reminder to turn it into a swimming pool! Of course, most people don't have a dumpster lying around the house - especially one this big. But, somehow, these people got hold of one and decided to fill it with water and add some steps for ease of access. The whole thing is totally bizarre, but it also works very well.
After all, this dumpster is big enough to fit at least 20 people, and it's also sturdy enough that it won't crumble under the weight of the water. So, we guess it works.
Time for a Pick-Me-Up
Did your mom always tell you that you didn't have enough space in your backyard for a swimming pool? We can only assume that the moms of these kids did the same, which is why they decided to take matters into their own hands and find a way around this problem. Their solution? Find a way to build a pool somewhere else where it wouldn't take up valuable space on the property.
In their defence, they definitely solved the problem! But let's just hope that this wasn't their dad's pickup truck. We doubt he would have been happy to find a makeshift pool in the back.
A Kiddie Pool
When you think of a kiddie pool, there's a high chance that you think of smaller-than-average pools that have slides, games, and jets of water that make the whole thing even more fun for the children to enjoy. And while this kid probably would appreciate a kiddie pool, we don't think they found it in the toilet! That didn't stop them from trying to go for a little swim, though.
Judging by the look on this kid's face, their mom has just told them off for trying to swim in the toilet. They don't have their armbands on, after all!
Getting Comfortable
Being on the water is extremely relaxing, but do you know what's more relaxing? Lounging on the couch! This guy obviously agrees with us, which is why he decided to take the comfort levels up a notch. He grabbed a blow-up bed from the garage and shoved his couches right on top. In fact, we're actually very impressed the bed was able to take the hefty weight of the couches.
The end result looks pretty comfortable, but we do have to wonder how he's going to get off this. After all, one wrong move and he's going straight into the water.
Sink or Swim?
Human beings aren't too picky when it comes to swimming. We'll swim in swimming pools, we'll swim in lakes and rivers, and we'll swim in the ocean. But one thing we definitely wouldn't swim in is this boat swimming pool. We're not sure what happened here, but that water is making us feel ill just by looking at it! It just really doesn't seem very sanitary or clean in the slightest.
We're not actually sure whether this boat was meant to be turned into a swimming pool or if it was just filled with rain. Either way, we think this woman should probably get out of there as soon as possible.
Too Many Wires
At first glance, it looks as though this guy has made himself a pretty normal DIY swimming pool. It looks very similar to the kind of blow-up pools you'd buy from Target or Home Depot, and the water looks pretty cool and relaxing! But let's just take a minute to look at all of the other things going on in this picture. More specifically, just look at how many wires and electrical items he has nearby.
Last time we checked, water and electricity really don't mix. But that didn't seem to stop this guy from going all out and turning his DIY pool into the perfect hang-out spot.
Cooler Than Ever
When the temperatures soar, and the sun starts to blaze, a swimming pool can offer welcome relief. But what do you do when you don't have a swimming pool? Well, this kid has the right idea. They decided to jump into the cooler and take a dip in the ice instead, and we don't think we've ever been more jealous of a child before in our lives. That looks so cool.
This cool-down method probably also worked for the parents of this kid, too. With her in the cooler, she could pass them their drinks when they started to run low!
Going Big on the Balcony
Although apartments are common in big cities, some people can struggle when they don't have a backyard - especially if they're used to having one. Without this extra space, they can't ride bikes, they can't lounge out in the sun, and they definitely can't build a pool. That's what we thought, anyway. This person proved that you don't necessarily need a backyard to have a pool. You can simply build one on your balcony instead!
Of course, we wouldn't recommend anyone do this on their own balcony. And we really hope this guy checked the weight limit of his balcony before filling the whole thing with water.
